These are rare cacao seeds like those from the Cabruca cooperative, based in Ilheus, in the Brazilian municipality of Una. Located in the central corridor of the Mata Atlântica, a rainforest in the south of Bahia, the association owes its name to the cultivation system used: without deforesting the land, the cacao plants grow in the shade of other native trees and coexist with a wide variety of plant and animal species. This method has been practiced for more than 200 years and serves as a model for other agroforestry systems. The cacao is cultivated using biodynamic methods and is monitored to ensure traceability of each lot from the moment it leaves the farm until it reaches the consumer.
