Chuao cocoa is considered by many to be the best in the world: it grows exclusively around the village of Chuao near the Henry Pittier National Park in the Aragua state of Venezuela. This cocoa is considered a Modern Criollo, which is characterized by a high genetic purity of Criollo without bitterness and a characteristic touch of acidity that makes the chocolate fresh, fruity and with an extraordinary persistence. In 2021, Chuao cocoa became the first cocoa in the world to receive a certified Designation of Origin, DOCC (Denominacion Oficial Cacao de Chuao).
